Mutual Funds
In the equity segment, mutual funds have performed exceptionally well over the past 10 years, generating annual returns ranging from 20 to 100 times. An investment of one lakh rupees made by retail investors is now worth ten lakh rupees.
When aiming to achieve financial goals such as retirement or purchasing a home, equity mutual funds are a great choice for building long-term wealth.
However, to maximize the potential of mutual funds, it is advisable to research online and choose the right mutual fund based on past performance or seek the help of a good financial advisor.
Types of Funds:
- Small Cap Small Cap refers to companies with a market capitalization of less than ₹500 crore. Most Indian companies are considered small cap.
- Mid Cap Mid Cap refers to companies and stocks that fall between large cap and small cap categories, with market capitalizations ranging from ₹5,000 crore to ₹20,000 crore. This category can vary with changes in a company’s market valuation.
- Large Cap Large Cap refers to companies that make up the top 80% of the total market capitalization. In India, these are companies with market capitalizations above ₹20,000 crore. Large cap companies in India are often well-established, but not all of them are suitable for investment.
Systematic Investment Plans (SIP)
SIPs are a facility offered by mutual funds that allows individuals who cannot invest a large sum at once to invest smaller amounts on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. This enables participation in wealth creation through investments in the stock markets over the long term.
You can start with a small amount, as low as ₹500 per month.
Share Market
If you have a clear understanding of stocks, they can be a great way to generate good returns. You need to identify stocks that are trading below their true value. Then, you can buy such stocks in small quantities and build wealth over the long term.
Initial Public Offerings (IPO)
An IPO happens when a company first sells its shares to the public.
It is essential to understand the fundamentals and future prospects of the company before investing. Investors in recent strong IPOs like ZOMATO have seen their initial investments multiply significantly.

If you wish to invest in the stock market, it is mandatory to have a Demat (DEMAT) account.
A Demat account is used to hold securities and shares electronically. This concept was introduced in the country in 1996 as an alternative to physical share certificates.
In other words, converting or holding your shares in electronic form is referred to as having a Demat account.
You can use a Demat account to store various investments such as equity shares, ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds), bonds, mutual funds, and government securities.
